Before you buy that dollar store extension cord or package of light bulbs, check to see if it has a certification mark from the Underwriters Laboratories (UL).Remember that extension cords you buy at a dollar store are most likely not surge protectors so even if they are not fire hazards, I don't recommend using them for your bigger electronics.
Toxic materials in products for children have been a concern for some time, but these products aren't only found in dollar stores.There are lots of reasons to be worried about lead paint on cheap toys but it's not really limited to just dollar stores.
