Small Business Saturday is a promotion that was started with the help of American Express to promote shopping at the local mom & pop type stores instead of huge box companies that outsource. This year, Small Business Saturday will take place on November 30, 2013.
If you run a small business, you can sign up now to be included on the map for the upcoming event. You will also get some free marketing supplies including 20 reusable bags and a welcome mat. This offer is only for businesses. If you register, your address will be listed on the map of small businesses.
If you use American Express, keep your eyes open for registration for Small Business Saturday. The past few years they have run a promotion where if you spend at least $25 in one transaction (not five $5 transactions) at a small business, American Express will credit your account $25. That means that when you get your monthly statement, you'll see the purchase but you'll also see a $25 payment made by American Express. It's basically free money. Let's hope they run this promotion again.
