I Don't Know How She Does It is the new film staring Jessica Sarah Parker, based on the book I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson. Going in, I thought this movie might feel like Sex and the City 3 but I am happy to report that it didn't feel that way.
There has always been a double standard in the business world for men and women. As Kate (Sarah Jessica Parker) states at one point of the movie, "Trying to be a man is a waste of a women." This quote truly describes the plot of the film where a married woman trying to juggle her job at a financial management firm, her two children, and her architect husband. The story included many business taboos that all working parents face, however the scenes never felt forced and were always funny.
The film went back and forth between a documentary style where other characters are talking to the camera about Kate and a regular drama. I really liked the narration which a few times during the film reminded me of Save by the Bell when Zach freezes the scene to break the forth wall.
My personal opinion of this film is that even as a single 26 year old, I could relate to Kate through the story. The internal struggle she demonstrates when she made a promise to her daughter but then the boss calls is something that anyone can relate to. Even though I don't have kids, I've had to make tough choices when it came to what I wanted to do and what I needed to do. I think both men and women will enjoy this film and I actually plan on reading the book now to see how it differs.
I Don't Know How She Does It will be released nation wide on September 23, 2011. Don't forget to head to Yahoo! Movies on Facebook before the movie for your free popcorn text message.
