Just a Laugh: Grocery Store Map

Almost all grocery stores are set up in exactly the same way. They say that if you want to avoid pricing traps, only shop the perimeter: produce, butcher, dairy, and the bakery.

Just a Laugh: Black Friday

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now it's time to get out there and shop smart. Have a fun day!

Just a Laugh: Superhero Credit Cards

From the same people that brought you the Batman and Iron Man infographs comes the latest line in superhero financial humor.  Imagine if your favorite superheroes were to open their own banks and issue credit cards, this is what you might see.

There are currently seven cards but these are my favorites to share:

The credit card lender suggests this is best suited if:
  • You must be aged 18 or over
  • Only available to those in the Newspaper industry
  • Must be able to handle great responsibility
  • Villains need not apply

The credit card lender suggests this is best suited if:
  • You must be aged 18 or over
  • You must be a resident of Earth or Krypton
  • You must be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound
  • Villains need not apply

Check out all seven humorous credit cards at Money Supermarket.

Just a Laugh: Seems Legit

If these invisibility cloaks really work, why can I still see the hanger?

Just a Laugh: 2 Broke Girls Use Coupons

2 Broke Girls is a great new show about a former trustfund baby that finds herself working as a waitress after her father goes to prison for fraud and the family money is seized by the government. In this weeks episode, Carolyn learns the amazing world of couponing.

Scroll to around 2:05 to see the funny part involving coupons.

Just a Laugh: Economy

someecards.com - I'm not worried about the economy because I don't understand it

This is a scary thought because it's true. The economy is very confusing and the people that are suppose to understand still can't really explain what's going on.

Just a Laugh: Life's Cruel Irony

We all hope for a job that will fill all three categories, but if you could only have two, which would you want?

Just a Laugh: 3D Printer Profits

If only it was this easy to cash in.

Just a Laugh: Dress for Success

If this really works, I might start dressing like... actually I'm not sure what I'd dress like. What would you wear?

Just a Laugh: Dear Mom

Have you seen Dear blank, please blank? It's a really funny site. I saw this one and thought you'd all like the laugh.

Dear mom,
I know it's a sale but trust me, you'll save a lot more if you don't buy anything.
Sincerely, we've been here five hours.

Just a Laugh: Outsourcing

On my way out of the U.S. Mint, I stopped in the gift shop and purchased a keychain. When I got home and took the pricetag off, I had to laugh at the other tag. Can you figure out why?

Just a Laugh: Free Promotion

Some freebies are better than others. I wonder where I'll put my brand new air guitar. I'll need to clear a space to display it.

Just a Laugh: Ask Your Mother

Since most of us don't want to bug our mothers over something stupid like reading a laundry label, I recommend bookmarking Laundry Guide to Common Care Symbols which I found through a Google search last year. It has a list of the icons and explains what they mean.  I use to dry clean almost all my work clothing, but learning the correct way to launder them has really helped to save money.

Just a Laugh: New Standards

It's sad but true that the middle class has all but disappeared.  The current economy has two extremes with no middle ground.

Just a Laugh: Ordering for the Boss

I've done something similar in the past to order kids meals at fast food places so they don't look at me funny. I list what my "sister" wanted.

Just a Laugh: Fee For Talking

I wish more stores would take this approach to people on their phones at checkout. It really slows down the line for everyone waiting.

Why You Can't Always Trust the Advertising

How often have you made a purchased based on the advertising? I recently found this great video on YouTube. It is a re-edited trailer/music video for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. All the clips come directly from the film, but add some club beats and suddenly it seems like a completely different movie. If I had seen this new trailer without knowing anything about Harry Potter, like that's possible, I would have had completely different thoughts about the film. You can still tell there is an element of magic, but now it appears to be a romantic comedy.

So what do you think about how advertising changes the view of a product? What do you think about the remixed trailer? Leave a comment below.

Don't forget that Pottermore will be opening for beta on July 31, 2011 and the public in October. The beta testing will be for one million people. They haven't announced if it will be the first million or if there will be some kind of contest. Good luck!

Shared Reading: 100 Things Your Kids May Never Know

With Atlantis safely touching down this week, NASA's shuttle program has officially ended. As we prepare for the future, what are some things that will forever be in the past? There have been a few times at work where I might make a reference that result in blank stares from my students. Fergie is a popstar, not a divorced Dutchess and don't even get me started about television.

Yahoo! has come up with 100 things that future generations may never know about. I read this list and laughed at some of the things so I thought I would share them with you.

15. 3-D movies meaning red-and green glasses.
17. That there was a time before "reality TV"
30. Blowing the dust out of a NES cartridge in the hopes that it'll load this time.
34. Booting your computer off of a floppy disk.
38. Using a road atlas to get from A to B.
45. Not knowing exactly what all of your friends are doing and thinking at every moment.
56. When Spam was just a meat product.
86. Finding books in a card catalog at the library.

Just a Laugh: The Average American's Gas Gauge

I have to say that the political cartoons on American Progress are just really funny and normally very relevant. I subscribe to their daily feed and recommend it to everyone that just needs a humorous break from all the depressing stories in the news.
