Sponsored: No nonsense Style Made Easy

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Staying in style isn’t always difficult but being comfortable can be. No nonsense tights and leggings are well priced and will add color to an outfit while giving your legs a well needed layer of protection from the cold.

Are you brave enough to go bold? No nonsense leggings come in all colors so you can go safe with blacks and grays or stand out with reds and blues. Since No nonsense leggings are under $10, you can even buy a few pairs and change up an old outfit. Another great way to use leggings to change up your outfit is to wear a classic color to work and change into a bold color before hitting up happy hour. The best part about No nonsense is that you can buy them almost anywhere; I’ve seen them everywhere from CVS to Walmart.

I created an outfit collage on Polyvore to show you just a few color choices. Taking a simple black sweater dress, you can easily go from day to night. I’m not brave enough to wear the bright colors but I have seen plenty of people out and about dressed boldly.

How brave are you?

Have you heard of Jill Martin? She’s an Emmy winning TV personality and co-author of the New York Times bestselling style guide “I Have Nothing to Wear!” and will be teaming up with No nonsense to offer fashion tips through social media. Make sure you like No nonsense on Facebook and follow them on Twitter (@benononsense) because they will be offering some upcoming contests including a shopping spree with Jill.

Sponsored: Big Layaway Giveaway!

This is a sponsored post, I am a Kmart Layaway blogger, though all opinions are my own.

Kmart_Logo_B&W.jpg (3 documents, 3 total pages)

It’s only September but the stores are already preparing for the holidays. I actually saw Christmas trees on display last week in two different stores. A big thing during the holiday season is the use of layaway. I never actually used layaway before but I can understand the appeal.
  1. There’s no interest like you get on credit cards, just a small flat fee.
  2. They hold onto the item until you pay, therefore no need to hide something from the person you’re giving it to.
  3. Some stores will agree to lower the price if it goes on sale while you’re still paying it off.
This year, Kmart is offering a great promotion, Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway, for customers using their layaway department. Each week, one winner per store, will get their layaway balance paid off. That means that no matter what you have on layaway from a few shirts to a new entertainment center, Kmart will pay off the bill. Even cooler, every store will select a winner each week. That means your chance of winning is even better because it’s not a national giveaway.

The giveaway goes from now until November 17, 2012 and you will automatically be entered to win if you put something on layaway. Consider this a possible way to get your holiday gifts at a steep discount if you win. I did see something mentioning free layaway but all the details I have read state that the fee is $5 to open a layaway contract.

Kmart Free Layaway Grid 09_12.jpg

Something interesting I learned while reading the rules for this giveaway is that you can also make a layaway purchase online. Did you know that? I’m not sure if other stores offer a plan like that but it can make your holiday even easier. Now you can save money on interest rates and still shop online.

Product Review: Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations

Remember this delicious looking creation I tweeted from BlogHer'12?

Hillshire Farm's Expo Booth

After the conference, I received an email from Hillshire Farm asking me to review their products and host a giveaway on Making Cents of It. Of course I immediately said yes because I had already gone out searching for the Gourmet Creations Chicken Apple with Gouda Cheese which I had a few times at the conference (it was yummier than the lunch being served so I went back). As a new product it's not easy to find yet. I went to Shoprite, Pathmark, and Acme before finally finding it on the shelf at Giant. That's right, I went to four different stores searching for this product but that's how much I enjoyed the sample.

While apple doesn't sound like something you'd want in your sausage, it gives it an amazing flavor. It was sweet, but not too sweet. I cooked it up in the morning to pair with my eggs for a simple breakfast. The sweet flavor complemented, but didn't overpower the rest of the breakfast.

The new Gourmet Creations come in a total of four varieties. I also tasted the Beef & Jalapeno with Monterey Jack Cheese but it was too hot for me. As a point of reference, I'm not a fan of spicy food and even find mild wings to be too hot at most places. Therefore, if you like a kick you can't go by my opinion of the food.

Don't forget to check out the Hillshire Farm's website for recipe ideas. The Gourmet Creations were even featured on Rachel Ray.

Wholly Heroes

Today is National Guacamole Day. What better way to spend it than opening up a package of Wholly Guacamole and enjoying that delicious, fresh flavor. Wholly Guacamole wants to use National Guacamole Day as the beginning of a great new promotion.

Wholly Heroes is a great new promotion that was designed to help give back to the families of American heroes. Every day, our brave men and women risk their lives to protect the freedoms that we as Americans grew up with.  While they're fighting in wars, their families remain home.  Wholly Heroes has teamed up with Operation Purple.

Operation Purple, a program of the National Military Family Association, are a nice group of people who made camps for military kids like me. And you can even go to camp with your family, so no one gets left out.

They make camp really fun and I am very happy when I am at camp. We get to do cool things like check out the inside of a helicopter. You can help other kids go to camp by donating. If everyone gave some of their allowance maybe everyone will get to go to camp.

From now until October 31, 2012, you can donate money or purchase t-shirts to help Wholly reach their goal of sending 100 military children to camp. You can purchase a really cool t-shirt for $10, with 100% of the proceeds going to the goal. To reach the goal of sending 100 kids to camp, they need to sell at least 5,000 shirts. I received on of these t-shirts and I have to say it's a fun little graphic on a nice quality white shirt. The design, by Brad Meltzer, is two soldiers lifting an American flag with the caption "Ordinary People Changing The World" underneath.

Additionally, each order will arrive with a coupon for a free Wholly Guacamole product. That's a great addition for such a good cause. Help Wholly reach their goal and help support our service members and their families.

Disclaimer: I received a cooler full of Wholly products and a t-shirt in exchange for writing this post about Wholly Heroes. I did not receive any other compensation. All opinions are mine. Any facts about the program come from Wholly Heroes.

Giveaway: Rosacea Facts Cetaphil Prize Pack

While at BlogHer'12, I interviewed Dr. Baldwin from Rosacea Facts. After the interview, I was given a giftbag to give a reader when I posted the interview. This giveaway will have two prizes:  (1) Cetaphil skin cleanser, Cetaphil lotion, Cetaphil moisturizer, and a small mirror and (2) a $1 off coupon for a Cetaphil product.

If you haven't used this stuff, it's amazing. I have actually used the Cetaphil skin cleanser for years but I never looked at their other products. It's extremely gentle on even the most sensitive skin types.

Update: I was informed that I forgot to add a link back to the original post which included the video of the interview. Sorry about that.

Sponsored: Learn About Rosacea

Since I was younger, I have suffered from what my classmates affectionately referred to as clown checks. Besides the visual symptoms, I have always suffered from sensitive skin that can't deal with most brands of cleansers or makeup.

When I saw the opportunity to interview a celebrity dermatologist for Making Cents of It, I thought it was a wonderful opportunity. Dr. Hilary Baldwin is a sweet dermatologist from Brooklyn who was full of useful information for anyone that suffers from rosacea. Check out my interview below. If you have questions for Dr. Baldwin (or possibility a different dermatologist) tweet with the hashtag #rosaceafacts. If you have rosacia, know that you are not alone and talk to your doctor.

Product Review: Nescafe Memento

Nescafe has recently come out with an instant cappuccino product, Memento. All you need to enjoy the beverage is 8 ounces of hot water. The best part is Memento is guilt free because it's only 100 calories per cup.

Memento comes in three flavors: cappuccino, mocha, and caramel latte. I received a sample of each flavor to try for this review. I found the beverages to be similar to convenient store cappuccinos. It had flavor and foam but you could tell it was made from a powder and not fresh. Similar to other coffee beverages, you might need to customize your beverage to taste with sugar or cream but you might not.

  • Cappuccino - After taking a sip, I added a single packet of sweetener to the mug. The flavor was good but I like my drinks sweet.
  • Caramel Latte - The caramel flavor was mild but good. I didn't need to add anything to this flavor sweetness wise and I enjoyed it.
  • Mocha -The mocha was my favorite of the three flavors but I needed to add a sweetener to this flavor as well. It tasted good plain, but I just like a sweeter chocolate taste. I prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate any day for that reason. Just like the caramel, the mocha flavor was muted but you could still taste it. I did notice that the mocha, unlike the other flavors, had a layer of powder on the bottom of the mug so the muted flavor might have been because I didn't stir enough.

Coffee is one of those amazing drinks that everyone will take differently. That's why there are so many types of strengths, flavors, and add-ins. Your tastes may differ from mine so I recommend trying these drinks. In fact, Nescafe believes the same thing and is currently offering free samples of Nescafe Memento on their website. The sample will come with two packets but the site doesn't state which flavors.

Nescafe Memento also told me about the upcoming feature on the NescafeUSA Facebook page. Starting in September 2012, you can read the unprofessional opinions of a celebrity coach. I'm not sure exactly what that means but it sounds like something funny for your coffee break.

Disclaimer: I was given a free sample of Nescafe Memento to review. I also received additional samples for a giveaway which will be featured on an independent post.  There was no compensation for this review and all opinions are mine. Any facts regarding the products were provided by Nescafe.

Sponsored: BOGO Sales at Famous Footwear

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Famous Footwear for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

FF-BiggestVictory-GIF_300x250(1).jpg

Sponsored: BuildASign.com

I'm on my way to BlogHer'12 in New York City.  Thanks to BuildASign.com, I have some really cool refrigerator magnets to hand out to my fellow bloggers. BuildASign.com is a promotional website that specializes in banners and signs.  From business cards to large vinyl banners, they offer tons of choices to help promote a business at competitive prices.

They have templates to customize or you can begin from a blank template.  While looking through the ideas, I decided to begin with the clean/dirty magnet for the dishwasher and them customized it to fit my need.  I used my piggy bank logo, customized with a QR code, and the website address. I was able to change each part's color making an unique looking design.  The color does look close to the template so I think there was a problem with the lighting when I took the picture.

Even if you don't need promotional items for a conference, I recommend checking out BuildASign.com for other needs.  I compared the price for 100 "save the date" magnets and they were half the price of a leading online publisher.  The more you buy, the more you'll save.  They also have those lawn signs you see often during election season which can also be customized to advertise parties and events.

The company also does canvas prints on their other site, easycanvasprints.com. I've never bought a canvas print so I can't really compare the product's price or quality.

What's for Breakfast?

Cheap Breakfast Ideas

Ever since we were children, it's been hammered into our brains that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I don't know about you, but I tend to wake up late and rush to get ready for work before heading out the door. Often, I stop at a drive thru to grab something for breakfast.

How much money can I save a week by making breakfast at home? A lot. Think of a bagel with cream cheese. At the local coffee shop it costs $2. If I buy bagels and cream cheese at the grocery store it's about $0.70 per bagel, less if I buy on sale, and about $2 for a brick of cream cheese which will cover about eight bagels. That's about $0.95 compared to the $2 of eating out.

What other breakfasts can be made quick to run out the door? There are tons of options. You can even make a few breakfasts on Sunday and just pull them out of the fridge. A dozen eggs can cost about $1. Boil the eggs and leave them pealed in the fridge for a fast breakfast. Oatmeal takes less than two minutes to cook in the microwave and you can even make it at work.

No matter what I have for breakfast, milk is always something I need to pull out of the fridge.  Whether I'm pouring it over cereal, in my coffee, or just drinking a quick glass on my way out, I always make sure to have a bottle in the fridge. I think it's just another thing that's been hammered into our brains. As a kid, I collected the milk mustache ads from magazines. Anyone remember the Rugrats chocolate milk mustache ad?

So what cheap and easy breakfasts can you think of to make at home before running out the door? Leave a comment.

Sponsored: Childrens Hospital

The doctors at Childrens Hospital all live together and it causes some conflicts. When Dr. Blake is kicked out of his apartment for being a clown, things get even more awkward as he moves in with his co-workers.

Have you ever had problems with your roommates? I remember my first roommate in college made it her goal to drive me crazy. The worst was when she'd come home late at night and blast music. I can really relate to Glenn and the other doctors as they try to figure out their new living arrangements.

Childrens Hospital: Third Season is now available on DVD.

Are you a fan of Childrens Hospital? Childrens Hospital: The Complete Third Season on DVD will be released on July 23, 2012. Childrens Hospital is a parody of modern medical dramas on Adult Swim. Each episode is a short, fifteen minute, format where outrageous situations. With a cast including Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) and Henry Winker (Happy Days) you are sure to find a reason to laugh.

A common form of comedy on the show is when a simple mix-up leads to a crazy situation. For example, one episode shows a doctor getting out of his car and slamming his hand in the door. With four fingers in braces, some interesting things happen at work.

Have you ever been caught in a mix-up that resulted in a comical situation? What happened? Share your experiences with your fellow readers.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of ShopYourWay Program for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
PersonalShopper.jpg

Are you a member of ShopYourWay?  If not, you really should consider joining.  It's the free reward program offered by Sears.  Just Request an Invite to ShopYourWay and you'll get an email to sign-up and start earning cash.  Just make sure you use your membership when you shop at Kmart and Sears.

Each time you shop, you'll earn points. Each dollar will earn you one point and one hundred points can be redeemed for a dollar.  It’s not the world’s greatest reward percentage but combine it with other reward programs, such as your travel credit card, and it will add to your overall savings.

I recently made a large (for me) purchase at Sears and I’m glad I had a ShopYourWay membership.  Now that I own my home and don't rent, I can't just call the landlord when something breaks.  So when I needed a new garbage disposal, I compared prices.  Sears had a great disposal for the same price as the hardware store but thanks to ShopYourWay, it was an even better deal. It also had the better warranty, seven years vs the competitor’s five years.

So you might have joined ShopYourWay ages ago but the program has now changed to include a more social aspect.  It’s really cool now because you can make recommendations and receive recommendations from personal shoppers, also known as your friends.  The best part is that if your friends aren’t already members, you can recruit them and earn points for their purchases too.
Here’s how the ShopYourWay Personal Shopper program makes your friends lives easier, and your wallet fatter:
• Invite friends easily through Facebook, Yahoo mail or Gmail
• Help them shop for items they need and love at great prices
• No affiliate link necessary, your clients can buy online or in-store, using their ShopYourWay Rewards card so they can earn points and get members-only offers.
• You earn commission when friends in your network make qualifying purchases at stores including: Sears, Kmart, and Lands End.
I really like that I can create a catalog for your friends to view.  I created a catalog to show you all how easy it is.  It's just a few of the items I've reviewed on Making Cents of It. You can also create a catalog of wish list items so your friends know what you want next time you're having a birthday or it's a holiday.

Sponsored: Homemade Dog Food

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of homemadedogfood.com for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you're like me, you worry about your furry friend's diet.  There are tons of dog foods on the market and if you ask ten people for suggestions, you'll find ten different answers.  Recently, a popular brand had a recall over the scare of salmanella.

Have you ever considered making your own dog food?  A Google search has reveiled lots of dog friendly websites for cooking your own food but even then it's hard to narrow down the choices.

A new website is available offering Homemade dog food recipes.  The website goes into detail about the selection of each ingredient.  Interestingly, many of the choices come down to the reasoning that dogs are carnivores by nature and their body is designed to eat certain foods.  If you are worried about feeding your dog raw meat, they also offer a Easy cooked dog food recipe.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the recipes.  While the website gives tons of reasoning behind everything, I don't think I will be taking my dog off a store purchased dog food.  There's just too much risk with the unknown.  Perhaps if I speak with my vetrinarian, I will consider something like this in the future.  What are your thoughts about homemade dog food?  Please feel free to share with other readers.

Music Review: Rascal Flatts' Changed

I was sent a copy of Changed by Rascal Flatts from One2One Network to listen and review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Growing up I was never really a fan of country music. Not because I didn't like it, but because I was never exposed to it. Fast forward to college and I fell in love with the genre as newer artists cross back and forth over boundaries. Rascal Flatts is one of those great country groups that have a little rock to their music. Last year I saw them in concert and loved every minute of it.

Their new album was released on April 3, 2012 and I was lucky enough to receive a copy to review.  Falling in line with the rest of their music, the songs on Changed range in tempo and topic.  I listened to the eleven track album, but there is a deluxe edition which includes an extra four new songs.

I think my favorite song was Banjo which was about getting away from the "concrete jungle" and just following the sound of the banjo to where the maps don't lead.  It was a very upbeat song that I found entertaining.  I often wish I could just get in the car and get lost from the craziness of life.  They make it sound like getting lost is so easy and relaxing.  Sunrise is another track with the same message about getting away from the things that cause you stress so that you can enjoy life.

Let it Hurt was another interesting song.  A ballad, it was about how the best way to appreciate the good is to feel the bad.   I could really sense the pain of a broken heart as I listened to the lyrics of the song.  The lyrics were written in a way that whoever is listening can imagine their own heartbreak and how things not only got better, but how the pain of the bad helped them see the true value in the good.

The tracks all blend together really well to tell a story of love, pain, and moving on.  While each track can obviously stand on its own, Rascall Flatts and their producers did a wonderful job of choosing songs that would tie together in a united theme for the album.

Rascal Flatts has another winning album to add to their long, no end in sight, career.  The songs on Changed fit with their older music but were different enough to keep them fresh.  These guys are extremely talented musicians and formed a great partnership that has remained strong through the years.  While other bands break up or call it quits, Rascal Flatts continues to provide quality music that inspires the masses.

For fans that want to see Rascal Flatts preform live, I have two fun events to tell you about.  The first is a contest to win a trip to see them perform. I have included the entry widget on my review to make entering easier. This is not my contest, but I have entered to win.  The contest ends on April 30, 2012 so don't wait to enter.

The contest's widget doesn't seem to be working so please use this link to check out the Fly Away contest.
This contest is really cool. They're giving away airfare, hotel, tickets and meet & greet passes for two lucky fans to see Rascal Flatts on their summer American Band tour kicking off this June with Eli Young Band, Little Big Town and Edens Edge. Contest ends April 30th. Suh-weet! (One2One Network)

The second option is to attend a "live" concert at your local movie theater.  NCM Fathom is currently promoting a concert on April 5, 2012.  This concert will be filmed and aired live (taped delay in PT/HI/AK).  Besides the actual concert, they will also be taking you behind the scenes between songs to get a look at what really happens during a concert.

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of Changed by Rascal Flatts through the One2OneNetwork. I was not compensated for this review but by writing it I am entered to win a prize.
