Movie Review: Guilt Trip

There is a long standing stereotype involving guilt and Jewish mothers.
Joke - How many Jewish mother's does it take to change a light bulb?
Mother's response - Don't worry about me. I'll just sit here in the dark.
While this stereotype is the basis of the new film Guilt Trip, you don't actually need to be Jewish to enjoy the humor. Guilt Trip stars Seth Rogan and Barbara Striesand as a son and mother that take a cross country road trip together.

Barbara Striesand is amazing in the film and I couldn't get over how funny she was. Sadly, there were no karaoke stops on their journey. Seth Rogan's acting seemed a little forced and awkward. This can be attributed to the fact that his character was on a road trip with his mother. I can't imagine anyone not being awkward in that situation.

After the screening I attended, there was a live, via satellite, interview with Seth Rogan and Barbara Striesand. During the interview it was revealed that the entire film was shot in California on a set with green screens. I found this hard to believe because it looked great. Unless you are a professional in the film industry I doubt you will be able to tell that anything was fake.

My personal opinion of this film is that most people will find it funny. I recommend seeing the movie with your parent because it will be a nice holiday treat. As we left the theater, I joked to my mother that the film accurately displayed how a road trip between us would be portrayed. She responded by stating that she would never take that kind of road trip with me.

Guilt Trip will be released nation wide on December 19, 2012. Check out my weekly post, Making Cents with Cori, on Cinemit for any concession and ticket promotions available.
