Free Screenings of The Host with Q&A After

From the author of Twight, comes the next movie based off of a young adult novel, The Host. The Host is a futuristic science fiction novel about an alien race that has invaded Earth.

Right now, people in select cities can get passes to a free advanced screening of The Host. Even better? Stephenie Meyer and the cast will be doing a live question and answer. Last time I went to a screening with a Q&A it was live via satellite with the actors actually being in the Los Angles screening. You were able to send questions through Twitter.

Stephenie Meyer will be doing a book signing the morning after Philadelphia's screening at the public library (free passes available) so it's highly likely that she will be live at the Philadelphia screening. I already have passes so look for me if you come.

Movie Review: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Twi-hards can rejoice. After waiting all year since Breaking Dawn Part 1, it is finally time to see the chilling conclusion to the franchise. Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the fifth and final film based on The Twilight Saga book series by Stephenie Meyer.

Often with books that are turned into movies, fans complain about changes from the original text. There were changes made once again to this half of Breaking Dawn. Some of the changes were made to speed the story along, while other changes were made to add excitement to the film. Fans will be shocked but ultimately pleased with the changes made from the original text.

At the end of Breaking Dawn Part 1, Bella gave birth to Renesmee and was turned into a vampire by her husband, Edward. Part 2 begins exactly where part 1 ended. There is no "previously seen" type of scene to start the film. The technical parts of the film were incredible as we see from the perspective of a vampire for the first time.

Unlike my complaints about Breaking Dawn Part 1, I felt part 2 was timed much better. At no point did I feel the story line was rushed, nor did I feel it was too slow. They did need to cut parts of the wolf packs in human form, but the scenes that involved the wolves were great, including Jacob's big reveal.

Like every movie in the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 2 featured new hair styles and new Volvos. I still feel that they had it right in the first film and should have stuck with it for continuity. The partnership with Volvo also removed the Ferrari which Bella was suppose to be driving after her change.

While rated PG-13, there was sex in the film. They really left much to the imagination by mostly showing above the neck and below the ankles. Once again, I felt it was done in a tasteful way and lasted long enough to show the primal behavior of lust without being too much for younger fans.

Writing a review of Breaking Dawn Part 2 is extremely difficult because there is very little I can say without spoiling the film for fans. There were a few things I didn't like such as the hair, but overall I left the theater pleased with the production. I think that all Twilight Saga fans will enjoy this final film. People that have not seen the first four films or read any of the books will be confused since it is a continuation.

I recommend that fans stay through the credits until the screen turns black with white text. They did an amazing tribute to all the cast members of the five films. It has nothing to do with the film itself, but it does add a nice closure to the series.

Movie Review: Breaking Dawn Part 1

So most of my readers already know that I am a Twi-hard and therefore this review should be taken as such. It is my opinion, but as a huge fan I can't really remain impartial and you need to be aware of that before reading the rest of this post. In fact, many of you may read this and think I hate Twilight or this movie but you would be wrong. I am just overly critical because I truly had high expectations going in.

For those that aren't sure or have been living in a cave, Breaking Dawn is the fourth book in the popular Twilight Saga. Following the lead of Harry Potter, they decided to split the final book into two films to avoid cutting key scenes for time. The two parts were filmed together, but part 2 will be released next year.

In the book, Bella and Edward finally get married but not without complications coming from the fact that he is a vampire, she is a human, and her best friend is a werewolf (but you knew that). The film begins with wedding invitations being received by the key characters in the story and leads into the wedding. It was unique how they slowly revealed Bella's wedding dress, even though we had already seen it in pictures and trailers.

I don't want to give anything away, but the movie was not timed well. I was under the impression that spiting the book into two films would prevent a rushed feeling, but that's how I felt at many parts. I felt that some scenes looked more like a montage than an actual scene. The only montage that really made sense was a cut and paste of the different wedding speeches. You'll really get a laugh at Charlie's speech as well as a few others.

Scenes were modified from the book including an interesting look at the wolf pack. This is the first time we really see them relaxing as humans so it was an interesting change. Another scene that was modified from the book also involved the wolves, but I won't go into details to avoid spoilers.

Once again, hair styles were changed and I just didn't like it. I honestly feel the first movie did it right and then they messed it up by trying to improve it. The make-up also could have used some work because Bella looked paler than her suppose to be pale vampire husband. Another change came in the form of the cars: Four movies and so far four different Volvo's.

My personal opinion of this film is that Twilight fans will be overall happy with the way things were done, but disappointed that they must wait a year to see the conclusion.  As I said at the top of my review, I feel like I was overly critical but it's because I had extremely high expectations for this movie.  Many of my favorite scenes can't be mentioned in my review without giving too much away.  I did enjoy the film and felt my emotions being tugged at in a similar fashion to when I first read the book.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 will be released nation wide on November 18, 2011. Make sure you stay until the middle of the credits because there will be a short scene that leads into part 2. There is only one scene so don't worry about staying all the way until the lights come on.

Twilight Saga Time Capsule

The countdown to Breaking Dawn has begun and Summit Entertainment wants fans to celebrate and connect. Check out the new Twilight Saga Time Capsule and share your favorite memories from the saga.

I can't be sure, but I think this might be Twilight's answer to Harry Potter's Pottermore. It's not an interactive book, but I think it's an interesting concept. Fans can link up there favorite memories to the timeline and share with fans all over the world.

Anyone that knows me would probably tell you that I am more obsessed with Twilight than I am with Harry Potter (if that's possible). I'm in the process of trying to get passes to a screening for Breaking Dawn so that I can write a review for you all before it comes out. Hopefully I will be able to secure passes through a contest or the PR firm that is running the screenings. Wish me luck!
