Bonus Free Storage for .Edu Emails on Dropbox

If you're a student that uses Dropbox, enter the Space Race now. The more people that register with your school's .edu address, the more storage you will all get. My alumni email address earned me 3gb already and my school is close to 8gb of free storage. The maximum is 25gb for each person signed up from your school.

Do you remember when I talked about cloud storage? Well, I personally have been using Dropbox for ages and I love it. I have it installed on both my home and work computer so I can easily work on documents in both locations.  It's also helpful when you leave stuff on the printer as you run out the door in the morning.

I also love another cool feature of Dropbox. If you have a smartphone, you can install the app to see your documents on your phone. That's not the cool part though. The cool part is that you can set Dropbox to automatically upload any picture you take. These means that every picture taken on your phone will automatically be uploaded to your cloud storage so that you can see them on the computer and have an automatic back up if something happens to the phone.

When you sign up for your free account, you get 2 GB free just for signing up. Getting bonus space is simple. When you refer new members, you'll get a 250MG bonus.  You'll also get bonus storage for completing a few simple tasks that you'll find on the welcome page.

Additional bonus storage can be earned through social networking. You've probably seen me tweet for the bonus storage before.  I've also posted to Facebook, but not on the Making Cents of It page.

With all these techniques, I currently have about 10.38 GB of storage for free.  Through referrals you can earn a maximum of 16 GB so I can still increase my free storage.  As I said, I love how DropBox has simplified my life.  If the free storage is not enough, DropBox does offer upgrades, but I'm not sure how competitive their prices are.

This Week's Office/School Supply Deals

Even if you are not a student, teacher, or parent, these sales can really help you out with basic office supplies. Below is just a sampling of this weeks sales (July 31, 2011 - August 6, 2011). Check with the individual stores to see the full flier for additional sale items.

Some of these deals are through the store's reward program so you will have to lay out money. In the past I've heard people mention that they're not really "free" because the reward checks can only be used at the store, unlike rebates with are cash. My thoughts on this are that if you use the rewards to buy things you would be buying anyway it's a great deal. For example, I can always use printer ink and paper so that's what I normally spend the reward checks on.

A reminder to all the teachers out there: Make sure you bring proof that you are a teacher because many of these stores will increase the limit for you on these penny sales.

Free Backbacks Now Available at Office Max

Earlier this week I mentioned a possible deal on bags at Office Max. That deal is now live and posted on Office Max's website.

From Office Max stating that from July 24, 2011 - July 30,2011 you can get 100% back in rewards on backpacks, messengers and select totes from Office Max.

Remember that 100% back in rewards means that you must be a member of Office Max's Reward Program, Maxperks, to earn the rewards. The rewards can be spent in the store so even though this is not a rebate, I'm sure you can always find stuff in an office supplies store that you need.

Shared Reading: 100 Things Your Kids May Never Know

With Atlantis safely touching down this week, NASA's shuttle program has officially ended. As we prepare for the future, what are some things that will forever be in the past? There have been a few times at work where I might make a reference that result in blank stares from my students. Fergie is a popstar, not a divorced Dutchess and don't even get me started about television.

Yahoo! has come up with 100 things that future generations may never know about. I read this list and laughed at some of the things so I thought I would share them with you.

15. 3-D movies meaning red-and green glasses.
17. That there was a time before "reality TV"
30. Blowing the dust out of a NES cartridge in the hopes that it'll load this time.
34. Booting your computer off of a floppy disk.
38. Using a road atlas to get from A to B.
45. Not knowing exactly what all of your friends are doing and thinking at every moment.
56. When Spam was just a meat product.
86. Finding books in a card catalog at the library.
