$49 for Kindle After Gift Card at Walmart

It's very rare for large ticket items like the Kindle to go on sale. The manufacturer sets the price and stores can't really lower them. The difference between stores is the promotion that goes with the item. For example, some stores might offer free cases or extra games to get you in the door.

This week, Walmart is promoting the Kindle e-ink. Until May 5, 2012, you can get a $30 Walmart gift card when you purchase a Kindle, (6" E Ink Display). That means that the $79 Kindle will end up being $49 after the gift card. This is one of the best promotions I've seen on a Kindle. It is not available online, so you will have to head out to the store if you want to pick one up.

Walmart's Black Friday Ad is Now Available

It looks like Walmart is the first store to officially post their Black Friday 2011 flier online.

Seeing their ad makes me want to just point out a quick piece of advise. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean you should run to buy it. Walmart is advertising a laptop for under $200. However if you look closely you'll notice that the laptop is outdated, even if it is new. My personal computer is over five years old and has more memory and ram then this new laptop does. That being said, enjoy Black Friday because it is a fun day and you can get some really great deals.

Product Recall: Walmart Great Value Reduced Sodium Chicken Noodle Soup

I don't post recalls often, but since I know a lot of my readers buy food at Walmart I thought I would post it for you all.

The recalled product, Walmart Great Value Reduced Sodium Chicken Noodle Soup, comes in 10.5 ounce cans bearing the UPC Code 78742 02083 and is marked with a "Best by" date code of "Best By 09 29 12" that can be found on the bottom of each can. Each can bottom also bears the establishment number "P-51".

It seems that the cans of soup were mislabeled and actually contain a creamy chicken soup which contains milk. This is only a health risk to those people with dairy allergies.

The product label indicates that the can contains Chicken Noodle soup; however, the can may contain Cream of Chicken soup. The soup contains milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this alert, and there is no risk to consumers who are not allergic to milk.

Is Walmart Really the Best Place for Black Friday?

Walmart has posted a press release regarding Black Friday. While they might be offering price matching, I'm not sure if its really the best store for the time crunch of Black Friday.

In fact, Walmart is one of the only retailers that will price match competitors’ ads on “Black Friday.” Customers simply bring in competitors’ ads and Walmart will match the price of any identical product right at the register, making Walmart the easiest place to save this holiday season.

While it would allow you to do all your shopping in one store, please consider the other parts to this equation.

1. Does Walmart offer comparable service plans to other, specialized, stores.
2. Will you still need to shop at other stores? Are they clustered together like a mall or all over town?
3. What are the time limits on deals? Walmart will probably only match "valid" deals so don't expect to show up in the afternoon if a competitors ad had hours listed.

If the items you want are specifically Black Friday deals at Walmart, it might pay to pick up the other stuff there too. Just make sure you're not going there only because they're offering price matching.

For anyone planning to shop at Walmart on Black Friday, head over to Walmart's website and check out your local ad.  Once at the ad, you can click "click here to get your map" and print out a map of the store showing where all the major Black Friday deals will be located.

Almost Free Gift Baskets at Walmart

As the holidays approach, Walmart has begun to market gift baskets. Some of these gift baskets have an interesting addition. If you find one of the gift baskets that offer a free magazine subscription postcard, you can refuse the subscription and receive a rebate for the cash value instead, approximately $9.99.

One such gift basket is the Venus Series Holiday Gift Basket for $10. After the rebate, the final price for the gift basket is only $0.01. Not too bad a deal for a penny.

Kraft has released a great new coupon for $1 off any Planter's nuts. Head over to Walmart and you can buy the individual serving bag for only $0.99 which means it will be free after the coupon.

Possible Free Oreos at Walmart

It might be possible to get up to four snack size packs of Oreo cookies for free at Walmart. The snack size packages are normally by the register and priced at $0.50. Using the $1 off 2 packages of Nabisco cookies coupon you will get two packages for free. Print two coupons (the limit) and that's four free packages of Oreo cookies.

Please note that while most Walmarts will have them priced at $0.50 it is possible for the price to differ based on your location.

Dryel and Walmart have teamed up to offer you this great rebate.  You can purchase a Dryel Starter Kit AND/or Refill kit both for free after rebate.  Just head over to Walmart to pick up both items and complete the rebate form on Dryel's website.  Dryel will then email you a completed form to print out and mail in with your UPCs and reciept.

It might be possible to turn this into a money maker because Dryel's website has $2 off coupons available.  If it doesn't become a money maker, it will at least make your out of pocket cost less.

Free Ice Cream Sundae at Walmart

This Saturday, May 22, 2010, starting at Walmart is giving out free sundaes to sample Breyers and Blue Bunny ice creams.  Participating Walmart locations will begin giving out sundaes at 11am and continue until 4pm or when they run out of supplies.

Each sundae will come with Hershey's Chocolate Syrup, Reddi-wip, and fresh strawberries.
