Why More Companies Are Finally Making K-Cups

Recently, more and more companies have been introducing new single serve coffee products. Have you noticed generic brands of coffee for your Keurig brewer? That's because in September 2012, the patent on k-cups expired. This means that other companies can now produce the product without paying a royalty to Green Mountain Coffee (parent company of Keurig).
For you, the consumer, this is great news because it means a few things. First it means more variety and choices. Second it means lower prices. Business 101 proves that competition drives prices down. While your favorite brands might not come down in price, other brands and flavors will flood the market.
While your favorite stores and coffee brands can now create single serve products, they can't use the name k-cups. The patent on technology might have expired but the copyright and trademark on the name k-cups has not. This is why these new products are being advertised as "single serve coffee for the Keurig brewers." Only companies that pay GMC can use the term k-cup on the packaging.
To know that the single serve product you are purchasing will work in the Keurig brewer, just make sure that the picture looks correct. The package should, but might not, mention that the coffee is for use in a Keurig brewer. Enjoy your lower costing, but still delicious coffee.

If you have been wanting a Keurig Brewer but didn't want to spend the money, Staples has a great deal for you. The B30 (Keuirg Mini Plus Brewer) is currently priced at $99.99 but you can get it for even less after rebates. Staples is offering a $20 Staples gift card after rebate and Keurig is offering a $20 rebate. That's $40 off which lowers the price to $59.99.
If you're shopping online, use the promo code 54557 to save $20 off $50. This will make the final price for this coffee machine from Staples is $39.99. Even better, shipping is free on this purchase.
Save even more money by shopping through eBates (2% back) or Shop at Home (3% back). New members to either site can also earn a bonus.

Anyone that knows me can tell you that I live on coffee. That's why I'm really excited for the upcoming HouseParty. Right now, you can register to host a party that introduced the new Keurig Vue coffee brewer. 2,000 hosts will be selected so there is no guarantee that you will be a host.
I love my Keurig Mini Plus brewer but the Vue looks even better. The new technology allows even more customization for each individual cup of coffee. Besides coffee, the Vue can also brew delicious teas, hot chocolates, and other hot beverages.
If you've never hosted a House Party before, check out my original information post to learn what it takes to host a party.

This is probably the first time I've ever seen a free sample of Starbucks k-cups. Head over to Target's sample page and you can request your free sample. You have to qualify for this sample, but that's basically saying that you own a Keurig and stuff. However, if you didn't own a Keurig why would you be requesting k-cups that you couldn't brew? Enjoy!

Product Review: Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System

If you're like me, you spend a fortune on coffee every morning. I had a coffee pot, but brewing a pot for one cup was annoying because I would spend more time washing the pot than drinking the coffee. A few of my friends have Keurig machines and I knew they were convenient but I wasn't sure about the price. It's a lot more than the $10 machine I got at Walmart during college.
I thought that my readers might be interested in the Keurig machine, so I got my hands on the Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System
While the other models of Keurig machines have an attached water tank, the Mini only brews one cup at a time and therefore only holds a maximum of ten ounces of water. The nice part of this is that it takes up much less space and there's no tank of stagnate water sitting there. You also don't need to purchase accessories like a filter because there is no tank. The downside is that if you are planning to make multiple cups (or have guests over) you must wait three minutes for each cup.
I really like the convenience of this machine and how little space it takes on my counter. In fact, the boxes of K-cups I have actually take up more space than the machine. This small machine would be great for a small apartment, dorm room, or personal office (not for use in the breakroom). It's extremely simple to use and the coffee comes out tasting consistent every time. I like that the MINI Plus allows you to brew three different size cups. If you have a smaller cup, you can brew just six ounces, while for a larger cup you can brew up to ten ounces.
My only negative comment regarding the Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System
When you average out the per cup cost, K-cups are not expensive. In fact, the highest price I've seen is 14 k-cups for $11.99 which averages to about $0.86 per cup. When you add in coupons and cheaper brands, you can get it as low as $15 for two boxes of 18 which is $0.41 per cup. I've also seen Office Depot offer 100% back in rewards on K-cups making them as low as free.
Disclaimer: I received a free Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System to write this product review. I did not receive any additional compensation. All opinions are 100% mine.

Target is currently offering a free sample of Barista Prima k-cups on their website. You will have to answer a few questions about your coffee drinking habits before you can enter your shipping address. One of the questions asks about how you make your coffee so they might deny you the sample if you don't have a Keurig
